It's been a nice relaxing week since Kalee has arrived. We have been kicking back, vegging out, playing video games until 1am and basically being bums.
Today, she went with Bert to get the kids hair cuts. That went fine. Ethan threw a fit but the job did get done. Then they went through the car wash and Ethan nearly had a stroke. I went and got my books for next semester and got the items we would need to make snacks for New Years Eve. Tonight is Silver Dollar City's last night so we are all driving down and seeing the Christmas lights.
Bert works New Years Eve so Kalee, Emily, Ethan and I will be bringing in the New Year with movies and finger foods. A friend or two from the neighborhood also may come over. Nice, relaxing, safe and drama free zone...that's what I like! Best way to bring in the New Year.
Kalee is watching the kids with me a few times this week so I can spend some time with my sister too. We are going to go chow down on some Thai food tomorrow for lunch and on Thursday, we are going shopping. I can't wait.

The more the Merrier
The trip to get Kalee went off without any problems. Evan, Emily and I made it to St Joseph only 10 minutes ahead for Pete, Ruth and the kids. That was perfectly planned!
It started snowing right before we got to St Jo, but we went ahead and had a quick bite to eat at Applebees (Thanks for dinner Pete!). After only an hour, about an inch of snow had fallen and it didn't look like it was letting up any time soon. I had Bert check radar with the helicopter pilot who said if I made it to Kansas City, I was in good shape. So we took it easy and made it to KC no problem. We were home by 10 with enough energy to take each other on in a game of Mario Kart.
Today we made a Walmart run and now we are relaxing at home. We are going to be baking later today and I have a surprise to make for Kalee.

Off to get Kalee
Emily is so excited. She is going with me today to get Kalee. We are meeting Pete and Ruth half way at St Josephs. This gives Kalee a chance to get away for awhile. Not much different around here but it is defo warmer! It is 65 degrees here today. Evan is going with me too so I'll have some company and Kalee will be excited to see him too.
It's rainy and stormy too but I suppose it could be worse....could be ice and snow.
Ethan is spending the afternoon with Aunt Kim and baby Luke. Danielle is coming over at 5 so Kim can head out. Took some planning but it's come together pretty good.

Christmas Day LATE night
It's just past 1 am and I am exhausted! What a fun past few days! Everyone made out really well and the kids beyond belief.
I am picking up my niece Saturday and hopefully, can find time to upload and tell you all about our Christmas get-togethers. The kids had a great time and that is what mattered the most to us.

Christmas Eve Day
Bert had to work today so Emily and I made lots of cookies. Hers were your basic sugar cookie, decorated with sprinkles. Her Daddy had a special request for peanut butter cookies so I made those. I required a nap after this event haha!

Mama Staab's Chili (Safe for picky husbands)
I actually can't take credit for this. Bert's mom gave me this recipe over 10 years ago and I've not changed a thing. We love it.
2 lb hamburger
1 avg green onion, chopped
1/2 avg onion, chopped
1 Can red kidney beans
1 Can chili beans
1 TBSP chili powder
40 oz tomato juice
Brown hamburger with green pepper and onion. Drain. Mix hamburger, green pepper and onion with remaining ingredients. Simmer one hour.
People won't believe there weren't more ingredients or that it is so easy!
I made this tonight. Perfect way to end a blistery cold day.

I'm at work but have made my huge grocery store list for when I get off. I'll be making Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts with homemade 'secret' BarBQ Sauce (Thank you Tina Harkness!) and a new desert called "Death by Chocolate Trufle" (Thanks to Raquel for sharing her family cookbook with me). My mom and dad fix smoked meat and all the "fixins" for our Christmas get together and think these things will go over pretty good.
I'll be wrapping presents all night. Tomorrow should be a lot of fun. The picture of the kids is our Christmas card this year. Despite how it seems, Emily is not trying to choke Ethan out. haha!

Count Down to Christmas
I'm getting ready to leave to take my last final. After that, it is officially the count down to Christmas where I don't have to worry about studying or jetting off to take a final. This week has been a whirlwind but all worth it at this point. I've done great on my final, and have an A in each class. My test this morning should be no problem.
Emily is very excited about Christmas this year. We wanted to make sure the presents for the family in Iowa got there in time for them to open them on Christmas Day so Emily and I wrapped their presents last weekend and sent them on their way. All she can talk about now is Iowa Iowa Iowa. She wants to see her "Nana", "Grandpa", "Doza dog", "Travie", "Heather" "Morrie" and a whole list of other names. This is the first year she grasps the idea of Santa and presents and she is beyond excited. She is also excited her cousin Kalee is coming to visit for a week right after Christmas.
Ethan doesn't quite understand much but adores his tree. Took a few days to get him to stop taking ornaments off but he doesn't touch now. He's petrified of the vacuum so I've threatened to vacuum if he touches the tree. Our tree this year has snow on the branches so touching it much leaves little flakes on the floor underneath. As a reminder, I put the vacuum near the tree and he learned faily quickly. haha! This tree is also 7 1/2 feet tall, and with a star and stand, well over 9 feet. It's also pre lit. It is by far the prettiest tree I've ever had. Big thanks to Aunt Kimmy who gave it to us.
Ok, off to take one last final. I work today and tomorrow and have our family Christmas on Sunday. I'll take lots of pictures of course, so check back soon!

Counting Down to Christmas
December has flown by with school, work and shopping for Christmas. Other than a little Mario Kart action in the wii here and there, I have had little time for anything else.
However, everything is falling into place quite nicely. Since I ventured out on Black Friday and got MEGA deals, I had very little else to do and most of that was done online. I have a few online sites I buy from and usually even get free shipping. Since the prices are the same, and usually lower than what I would buy in a regular store around here, I am ahead even further because I don't have to get out and fight the crowds or waste my gas. It's a win-win. Online shopping is the way to go depending on your list.
Emily is very excited about Christmas. She helped decorate the 7 1/2 foot new pre-lit Christmas tree this year and had a really good time. We wind down at night reading Christmas books after playing a round on the wii of course. I really didn't decorate much more than that because of time but I'd say little hands would not be able to keep from playing with any decor I put out. Maybe next year. This was also the first year in 3 Christmas's that I put ornaments back on the tree. I'm in need of some new ones so will hit after Christmas sales this year too. woot woot!
School rocks! I took my English final this week and got an A. I finished with an A in that class. I have a algebra regular test tomorrow which should be no problem, and then the final will be in two weeks. I really like algebra and am looking forward to next semester (Yes, I'm one of those that people hate who do not like algebra hahahaha!!!). I hope the professor is just as good but he came recommended from this semester's teacher so I'm pretty confident. If algebra remains this easy to understand, I might help some friends of mine get through the class next semester. Maybe I could get some extra money on the side tutoring!
Sociology and psychology final is next week. I'm making A's in both those classes too and don't expect the finals to be difficult at all. After those tests though, I will be able to relax more and really get into the Christmas spirit. Usually by this time, I've got a bunch of recipes planned out to take to all the Christmas parties and events. Not so much this year yet but it will work out.
I wanted to take a minute and thank those of you who have been so supportive these past few months with me returning to school. Bert has been amazing and behind me every step of the way. My sister is an absolute angel. Every one of you know who you are. Emily "wants to go to mommy's school so she can work on the computer all the time". (Awwww) Encouraging words have really motivated me. Those with NOT so encouraging words have motivated me as well (Yep, I know haha, and it's ok). Having my children and then returning to school, is without doubt, the most empowering thing I have ever done and I appreciate those who have supported me.
On that note, watch your mail boxes for Christmas Cards. They will be out by the weekend.

Sunday
Had a really great family day today. We all 4 went to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate Daniel and Alyssa's birthday party with the D'Amores. That is by far Emily's favorite place to go. She remembered dancing with Chuckie when I told her we were going and was way stoked when he arrived. She's playing a lot more games and just has an all-out great time. Ethan is still restricted to the smaller area, but still has a great time. He also is just as happy eating something. The best part was that one of the games malfunctioned and would not stop spitting out game tickets. We ended up with over 300. AWESOME!
We came home and I finished a psychology assignment. While doing that, Emily and Bert played Wii and Ethan went to nap. Before I finished my homework, Bert and Emily were sacked out in the recliner. I put some ribs in the crock pot, then I took an hour power nap. It was heavenly.
I am thrilled to report that my English professor thinks I'm an amazing writer! I find that really weird because I usually can't write a paper without the word "ya'll". (Kidding) I've had some great discussions with the other students in my sociology and psychology class. I'm actually going to miss those classes. My instructors make a difference too. They are tough, but fair. Oh, and I just made an A on my second Algebra test. Emily and Ethan have made this a tremendous challenge but I'm stoked to have been doing so well. I can't wait for next semester.
Thanksgiving is coming up. I have to work but Bert is taking Emily and Ethan over to my moms. I sure hope I get some left overs (HINT HINT)

Space Station viewed
Kids and I bundled up tonight at 5:35 and sat on the deck. We got to see the space station go over. Emily said "cool star"! I explained to her it was a space station and the rest of the night she kept saying "I love space 'shuttles'". She's so funny!

Quick notes
I've been so busy, I havn't even had time to drop little line here every once in awhile.
School is going AWESOME. I love it!!! I'm an "A" student and hope it continues. I've lined out my schedule for next semester. It's going to include anatomy, pysiology, algebra and another psychology class. Online classes work out great for me.
We went home to Iowa and every one there is doing well for the most part. I went out with a gal named Cheryl and did the octoberfest "thing" for a couple of hours. My nephew Jason and his girlfriend came out too. Bert stayed behind and took care of babies. Emily and Ethan went to their first pumplin patch with Heather, her kiddos and Kalee. We had a blast. We will defo be going to those every year.
Thanksgiving is around the bend. I am going to work but Bert is taking the kids to my moms house for dinner. Then comes Cmas and Emily is already asking if we can put the tree up. We were going to try and make it to Iowa this Cmas but in light of a few things, we're going to postpone it. However, plans are in the works for Kalee to come down through Christmas break so that will be fun!
Finals are just around the corner and then Cmas break so hopefully, I can get some catching up done on here. Everyone take care!

Mid terms
I'm half way there....for this semester anyway. I've been busier than ever. Every week is a new list of things to do, write, read or study. But, I'm making all A's so must be doing something right. I'll just keep plugging away!
The kids are doing great. They keep me pretty busy during the day and I end up staying up really late every night to finish what school work I didn't get done but it's working out. We are going to Iowa this Wednesday and staying a week. I'll be lugging all my books and my trusty laptop. OTC doesn't think Oktoberfest is a reason for a week off for some reason.
Go my sisters blog and check out the pictures she posted from the Bar BQ at my grandfather's farm. The kids had a great time! I've got pictures on my camera but havn't moved them to my laptop. Maybe I can get my blog caught up while in Iowa!

Pop's BarBQ
We are off to the "farm" today for our final BarBQ of the year. My grandfather and aunt have one down at their farm each year about this time. It took some patience getting this one going because of flooding and birthday parties and work schedules but today is the day and we're gonna have fun!
Bert got home this morning and took care of the kids. I started cooking and preparing. I made a fruit pizza for all and a small one for my grandfather to eat on all week, jalapeno deviled eggs and a new recipe called Green Grape Salad. It looks and tastes really good! I'll try to get some pics to post later. Since school has started, I've missed cooking.
So, Ethan is napping, Emily is "resting her eyes", I'm gonna run to the store and grab ice and drinks and be ready to go when we get Ethan up at 3. Stay tuned for pictures and stories in the next few days!

Fall is here!
It's cooler, the leaves are changing....I LOVE IT.
Things have been super busy but good. I had a bout of stomach flu and head cold and wiped me out for about 3 weeks but feel like I'm finally over it all. School is going really well. Bert is good. He's super busy in October teaching several classes on top of his regular shifts.
Kids are awesome. Ethan still practicing diversion techniques by dropping his pants whenever he's in trouble. It's now a funny game actually and we should really try to break him of it before he does it in public.
Emily is doing great. We went to Celebration city last weekend for the employee picnic. She had a good time riding rides and I loved showing her and Ethan off. We only stayed a few hours as we had Hunter Driskill's birthday party to go to as well. It was a busy day but they had a great time.
Not a whole lot else to talk about. We're going to Iowa later this month and we'll also be getting ready for Halloween. Any suggestions on what these two should be this year?

Zero Time
Well, this little blog has been fun but it's going to have to go on the back burner for awhile. School takes up any free time I had from my already busy life style.
I will be posting from time to time but only short bursts. Matter of fact, think I'll come up with a new catagory called "Memory Bursts" for things I don't really have time to write about in detail but never want to forget. Maybe I'll get around to writing about them someday.
Even though it's challenging, I LOVE school. I'm having a great time"today", I regret not starting this part earlier. I may change that thought later but that's how I feel today.
Emily loves her speech sessions with Miss Sheila. If I'd let her, she could walk into school all by herself. ugh!
Ethan is TWO! And a loud two at that. Actually, he won't be two till Friday, but he's been ACTING TWO for about a month now. But, he's the most loving boy evah when he wants to be. He does fall down a lot. I don't remember Emily falling down as much as Ethan. His legs look hideous and his head never has less than two healing bruises occurring. Guess that's a part of it.
I got to see Luke yesterday. He was the most adorable smile ever! He is such a happy boy and it's obvious his mama is wonderful to him.
Ethan's party is Sunday. Have a lot to do but will post pics afterards.

Even though it's challenging, I LOVE school. I'm having a great time"today", I regret not starting this part earlier. I may change that thought later but that's how I feel today.
Emily loves her speech sessions with Miss Sheila. If I'd let her, she could walk into school all by herself. ugh!
Ethan is TWO! And a loud two at that. Actually, he won't be two till Friday, but he's been ACTING TWO for about a month now. But, he's the most loving boy evah when he wants to be. He does fall down a lot. I don't remember Emily falling down as much as Ethan. His legs look hideous and his head never has less than two healing bruises occurring. Guess that's a part of it.
I got to see Luke yesterday. He was the most adorable smile ever! He is such a happy boy and it's obvious his mama is wonderful to him.
Ethan's party is Sunday. Have a lot to do but will post pics afterards.

Luke moment
My sister turned off her comments on her blog so I'm going to have to start making comments/memories on my own blog to remember things.
Her recent entry had to do with the fact she's big on him wearing socks when he goes to bed. He sleeps swaddled in this afghan blanket and we all know how those afghan's have holes in them where your toes could get hung up in if your not careful!
When Emily and I watched Luke a few weeks ago, I remember Kim mentioning before they left that he needed to wear socks at night. I remember not really knowing why and tossed it aside as maybe his feet got cold at night. I did make the mental note, "Socks at bedtime".
However, I did not think about it when I put him down for a nap the first day. He took his first nap, all swaddled in his blanket, happy as could be. And as much as this will make Aunt Kimmy twitch, I did get him up from his nap with about 6 toes sticking out of his blanket.
Ok...I know you could have gone forever without knowing this sis, but i laughed despite it all and had to share in my blog.

School has started for everyone!
I havn't wrote much in the past few weeks as we've been winding summer down and getting ready for school. Emily is going to see "Miss Sheila" twice a week again and I'm going back full time at OTC. Miss Sheila was very impressed with how much Emily's speech has come along this summer. I am thrilled that we have actual conversations now too. The online education experience has been challenging this weekend as I work my way around 4 Blackboards (psychology, sociology, pre algebra and english II) but I think I'm going to like it once I get going.
We went to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun this past week as our final fun thing to do. Bert hurt his back the last time we went, so we made it up to the kids by taking them this time. We stayed at a Days Inn, ate out, paid 10 dollar parking fees and odds and ends at the park. Bert went and played poker too and ended up winning nearly exactly what we spent on this trip. Basically, we went for free! The kids had fun though and that's really what counted.
So, we really don't have a whole lot planned over the next few months. I'm going to be concentrating on school and that's about it. Ethan's 2nd birthday is coming up. We'll be celebrating on Sept 7th. We're going to have his party here, invited several kids and friends and will hopefully have lots of fun. I think I'm going with Elmo as a theme...that seems to be what he loves the most right now.
Oh and I'll be posting Oceans of Fun pics soon. Those water proof cameras are nice but take time as I gotta take the film in to get developed. Emily has turned into such a water loving little girl. She "swims" underwater, jumps/dives in off the side/step and loves to make you proud by showing you how she can keep her eyes open under water. First thing next summer is swimming lessons for her. This last trip to Oceans of Fun was the first time Ethan even acted like he liked the water. He did the kiddie slides all by himself and him and I rode the bigger slides together and he giggled and laughed all the way down. We'll be investing in season passes at the pool next year, no doubt!
Everyone keep my Nano in your thoughts and prayers. She's at Cox South now fighting off a infection after pneumonia and a few other problems. We are hoping she recovers.

Emily's First Official Dentist Visit
Emily had her first visit to the dentist today. She was such a big girl! They called Bert back but did not call Emily back for a few minutes. When they did, I thought she went back to where Bert was. She actually was put in the room next to his. He heard the assistant going over everything with Emily and didn't know I was not even in the room. He went to check her once and saw her in the reclined position, being the best little girl ever! He just went back to his chair because she was doing so well.She laughed after it was over and mimicked how she swished water and how a thing sucked water out. She said it "tickled" and was very proud of her clean teeth. She is looking forward to going back and seeing Dr Cline.
She's growing up so fast!

Final Fair pics
Emily loved this helicopter ride. She rode it 4-5 times!
Ethan assumed the position in the stroller and didn't move. He had no desire to get out even. He just sat there and took in all the sights. He did like all the lights after dark too. He also tried his first corn dog (and loved it) and drank a lemonade. As far as I'm concerned, Fair Food is the best thing about the fair.
Proof I still ride rides.

Emily and Alyssa on the Bumble Bees. These kind of rides, Emily could ride all day!
We went into the Live Birthing Center and there were tons of baby animals in there. Emily loves the ducks while Ethan was more into the calves and baby goats (kids). Luckily, we saw no actual live births! Emily thought this little baby duck was so cute and wanted very badly to help him stand up.
Miss "no fear" Emily did this obstacle course 5-6 times. There were kids bigger than her a little nervous and she would jump in front of them and keep going. It was hilarious!
Notice the death grip! These cars jerk up and down and Emily wasn't sure about them. She held on though and rode it out. No cries or screams, completely stoic haha.
Arm band on and ready to go! This thing paid for itself. Most rides were 3 tickets and each ticket was about a dollar....so that's THREE DOLLARS per ride. (GEEZ) Anyways, she rode atleast 20 rides and probably closer to 30.
Oark Empire Fair Pics
Bert and Emily in the the Tea Cups. Bert hates spinning rides but went on this one with Emily. He kept saying "I'm dizzy" every time he came around. He made it though, without vomiting.
This was one of two rides that Emily was nervous on. This one made her scream out though and grab a hold of Bert. Later, she said something like "I felt in my cheeks and throat..they felt funny". We all know what that means on a ride that drops you super fast!
She was never so happy for a ride to be over than she was right at this moment.
Emily and her new friend, Alyssa, on the helicopter rides. Alyssa is the grand daughter of Lonna, the EMS manager for St Johns Wright Co.

The place is a great place to go and get away. The price for a room is very reasonable and there is a lot of stuff to do close by.
We will be going back at least every summer!

Grand Country Branson Missouri
You can google this, but the web sites won't tell you things I am about to:
1. Booking 6 weeks in advance, gets you a room that is the absolute farthest from the water park area that you can be...and on the third floor.
2. If your air conditioning unit is missing it's knobs, look directly in front of you on the wall and adjust your environment from the plainly visible thermostat that I did not see until 8 oclock the next morning.
3. Just because your 3 year old got to ride the indoor water slides the first day, does not mean the same lifeguard will be on the next day. 42 inches IS the limit!
4. There is a pizza joint and a buffet type restaurant on the property , all in the parking lot adjacent to the hotel rooms (Very close, even for the "nose bleed" rooms) Emily, Ethan and I ate breakfast there. The kids ate free (believe it was 4 and under eat free) and my bill was about 8 bucks. I thought initially kinda high for a breakfast but it was by far the best breakfast buffet I've ever had! The pizza joint will deliver to your room or you can eat there. That place closes at 11 pm. Not sure what the buffet place had on the dinner and lunch menu but defo checking it out the next time I go!
5. There is a frozen custard place on the parking lot too (Glenn's Frozen Custard, I think it was called). The kids and I spit a Turtle Sunday. It was TOO DIE FOR.
6. I meant to mention a worker at the Grand Buffet restuarant. As I said, I went there with Emily and Ethan and it was kinda difficult to get 3 plates of food going AND not lose my kids on the crowd. A young black man (I wish I'd gotten his name), really helped me out by giving Ethan slices of watermelon while I was filling plates full of breakfast foods. Not only did Ethan remain calm while I was gone...BUT LOVED THE WATERMELON. Who knew?
7. The outdoor waterpark area is small, but perfect for little ones and parents alike. Parents don't have a huge area to keep track of their kids at and as long as there is a slide or two there, the kiddos have a blast. There were lifeguards at all the water places HOWEVER, they don't babysit. Their job is to make sure your kids don't drown. You'll still have to watch them yourselves to make sure they don't jet out a door or get led away by a stranger. Just so you know, it's only a semi vacation for parents lol.

Finally, more teeth for Ethan
The boy who is taking forever to get teeth, has finally broke through another one.
That makes his tooth count at 12.

Emily Loves Showers
Life just got a lot easier.
While in Kansas City last week, the kids had to take showers at our hotel because the place didn't have a tub (stand alone shower type setup)
Anyways....Emily loved it. And, has opted to take showers at home now too.
My back loves it!

Home from Kansas City
The kids and I had a great time at Oceans of Fun today. Bert....not so much. He tweaked his back while waiting in line to get in this morning and it cause him some serious pain the entire time we were there.
So, the kids and I ran around for an hour or so. Then, Linda came and got us and we did the wave pool with the whole family. Emily LOVED IT! She had one person on each side of her and jumped into the waves as they came in. It was sooo fun to watch.
Little Ethan, who normally hates the water, also had a good time today. He went down a few kiddie slides, played with a ball I bought him and also had fun in the wave pool much to my surprise.
We only stayed 2 hours because Bert was so uncomfortable but we plan to go back next month during EMS day where we all get in free. Daddy will make it up to them without a doubt.

Bert did feel better by the time we got home. We rushed around and got ready for our monthly poker game as soon as we got home. He says he's still pretty sore but it's bearable.

Emily is my little dare devil. She'll ride any ride!
He did enjoy this place. You can't go wrong with a huge area full of balls for a boy!

Kansas City Fun
We arrived at our motel in Kansas City about 5 last night. Linda and her family were already here and I was happy to see we were right next door to them. We ordered pizza from their place, then came back early to try and get the kids to go bed.
Today was Worlds of Fun. We were there when the gates opened. Emily had a most excellent time. She rode every ride, some twice, and wanted to ride some more. She would watch the big rollar coasters and adult rides and when asked if she wanted to ride those, she excitedly said "OK!". She's definetely my little dare devil.
Linda and her crowd went off on their own for awhile. Then we met back at "Snoopy Camp" and the boys engaged in a little war at the ball shooting place. They were fun to watch!
